Leave your Links: Buttermilk Pie (with a Hint of Maple Syrup)

November 4, 2012 by bourbonnatrix

Our hearts go out to all of our friends and fellow bakers who were impacted by Sandy. Hope everyone is all right! Who baked pie? How did everybody like it?

Buttermilk Pie is a pretty big deal around here (very close to Texas, with A LOT of Texan tourists), and I thought this one was a nice version of the original, with a crispy top and creamy filling. I thought the pie tasted like french toast! ;)

I thought this was fast pie what was mellow in flavor and fun in texture. I would make this again. Sadly, the other members of the fam did not care for it.

Learned a couple of lessons with this one, as you’ll see. However, it was a very rewarding pie – and not one that I would think to make, while paging through the book. Now I know how good it is – and to be more careful with the butter next time – and I would make it again. It was surprisingly yummy. Mine looks a little more pale than others, as I needed to sponge off a lot of the excess butter that was swimming on top! Smells like maple syrup and pancakes when it comes out of the oven!

I made the buttermilk pie last year and didn’t want to make it again… So I made the brown butter snickerdoodles instead.
