I used walnuts – which were really good – but, my cake didn’t hold up:

This is my first post! I am excited to baking along with all of you. This one had mixed responses at our house:

I didn’t bake this one. Was making pumpkin cheddar muffins and honey cornmeal muffins for a friend. (recipes from Baked Exploration) I think you all made the pumpkin ones before I started here. Wasn’t sure about the combination, but they were good!!

LOVE the pumpkin cheddar muffins, Sandra. What did you think of them?

        D’oh… I didn’t read close enough – you liked them! :-)

I loved them! They were even better once cooled down. I will definitely be making them again. Would be great in the winter with a homemade soup/stew.

Sandra – did you blog about them? Let me know & I’ll add your link to the round up! I did really like those muffins, too!

I swapped out toasted almonds for hazelnuts (not a hazelnuts fan) and this was delicious! Chewy; interesting play of textures. It’s a tricky recipe, to be sure. I was surprised I pulled it off. I liked it.

I also made the Poppy Seed Pound Cake with Brown Butter Glaze – yummy (especially that glaze – OMG), but a cake that is easily over-baked.

Not perfect, but at least I didn’t have to re-bake as anticipated!

I’m just getting home from weekend travel so who knows when I’ll actually get around to posting. But even with hazelnuts (bleh), I liked this cake!
